How do I get access to software or applications to complete my coursework?

Answer

Did you know that you as a member of the CUNY community (students, faculty, and staff), you have access to software and applications for free or at a discount?

During this transition to online learning, many software programs that are available at our physical campus are available to you remotely, free of cost. Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, CUNY Assistive Technology Services (CATS), and ArcGIS may be available for home use. Please see list below for instructions to access this software.

Microsoft Office 365 for Education

Microsoft Office 365 is a collaboration between Microsoft and CUNY to provide our students with a feature-rich set of tools that take advantage of Microsoft's cloud-based product offerings such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint all Online. Additional features are available like shared calendar, address book and cloud storage (called OneDrive) with more tools for collaboration being added.

Go to the York Office 365 page at https://www.york.cuny.edu/it/webteam/live to log in to your account. Login with your current York Network account (username/password), following the instructions on this web page, to activate the Office 365 account.

Microsoft 365 for Education Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be found here.

Adobe Creative Cloud

In addition to faculty and staff, Term-active CUNY students can now download Adobe Creative Cloud applications to their personal devices. Students can go to https://creativecloud.adobe.com and use their CUNY Login username to authenticate and select which Adobe Creative Cloud applications to install.

The student instructions on Accessing Adobe Creative Cloud are available online and will be available from the IT Resources for Remote Work & Teaching page.

CUNY Cloud Virtual Desktop

Through the Cloud Virtual Desktop, you can remotely access course software such as ArcGIS
Ver. 10.7, Arcgis Pro Ver. 2.4, SPSS Ver. 25, SAS Ver. 9.4, Mathematica Ver. 10.2, Maplesoft
Ver. 2018, and Matlab Ver. 2015b.

Go to the CUNY Virtual Desktop page at https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/cis/virtual-desktop/ for more information and to download and install the Virtual Desktop Client software.

If you have any further questions about software at York College, please contact the IT Support Desk at (718) 262-5300.
