What is interlibrary loan and how can I use it?

Answer

Requesting Articles, Books, Chapters, etc.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service through which York students, faculty, and staff may obtain library materials that do not appear in OneSearch and are not owned or subscribed to by the York College Library or are available from any other CUNY library. You can create your ILLiad account (the way to get materials through ILL) and start requesting materials here: york.cuny.edu/library/interlibrary-loan

ILL is a great way to get articles that aren't available at York Library. Once your request is processed and the article can be found at another library, you will receive it directly to your email.

Requesting Books

If it's a book you need, you might use the CUNY Libraries Inter-Campus Services (CLICS) instead of ILL. CLICS is easier to use, much faster, and is open to all CUNY students, faculty and staff.

If you find a book in OneSearch that is not in the York College Library but is available at another CUNY library, you can use the request feature in OneSearch to have the item sent to our Library for you to pick up. You will be notified by email when the book is available.

An email notification will be sent to your York College email address.  If the book is not available, you will receive an email notice.

More information on CLICS is provided by Circulation staff members

Contact staff at the Circulation Desk at any of the CUNY Libraries if you have further questions about CLICS. At York, you can ask for circulation help in chat, or email library@york.cuny.edu for more info.
