Outsider access to the York College Library

Hello, I have two questions about your guest policy. 1. Are non-cuny people allowed in the library with a current CUNY student ? 2. Are CUNY students from other campuses allowed in the library? Thank you.

Answer

Hello - Public Safety (718-262-2222) controls access to the Academic Core Building - anyone who can gain access to the building can then enter the Library. According to the York website (https://www.york.cuny.edu/public-safety/id-card-1):

To access the campus premises, all visitors are required to provide a valid photo identification and demonstrate an official purpose for their presence at the college upon registering with Public Safety. It is mandatory for visitors to retain their guest pass, if provided, throughout their visit and to be prepared to present it upon the request of any college official.

To use a computer in the Library, one needs a York network ID.  We can log you in as a guest at one of the guest terminals, but they are at high tables, so one cannot easily sit at them - and there is no free printing associated with those accounts.  One can create a personalized guest printing account and add money to it (paper money only).

You can also connect your device to the wireless system using either eduroam (https://www.york.cuny.edu/library/connect-to-eduroam), or using guest wifi.

See this link for the Library's hours (https://www.york.cuny.edu/library/about/library-hours).

Also, please note that the Queens Public Library's Central Library (https://queenslibrary.org/about-us/locations/central-library) is located a few blocks away from us, across from the Jamaica bus terminal.

Good luck!
